Novak Djokovic withdrew from the French Open following an MRI scan that revealed a torn meniscus in his right knee. Earlier today, news about the Serbian going in for knee surgery in Paris filled the air. But, Serbian Olympic Committee President Bozidar Maljkovic has revealed the opposite.

Bozidar Maljkovic revealed to a local Serbian newspaper that he had contacted Djokovic’s uncle, and that he had not had knee surgery. This has come as a big shock to the tennis community a few hours after Djokovic withdrew from the French Open. In fact, the 37-year-old had told reporters after his over four-hour match against Francisco Cerundolo that he wasn’t sure if he would play in the quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, the Roland Garros confirmed yesterday that Djokovic withdrew after an MRI scan revealed a torn meniscus in his right knee. It was obvious that Djokovic would withdraw after slipping multiple times while playing against Cerundolo at the Philippe-Chatrier court. The 24-time Grand Slam champion also struggled with his right knee in the second set and called for a medical timeout.

Nonetheless, with President of the Serbian Olympic committee revealing a different story from the initial announcement, rings suspicion in the air.

My son reads the French press every day and the French wrote, in their very serious media outlets, that Novak Djokovic had surgery. We called his (Novak's) uncle, and we received information that Novak did not have surgery. I would not like to speculate further.

Besides that, earlier reports suggest that Djokovic could be sidelined for about six weeks to three months, which will eventually see him miss the Wimbledon championship. Yet, there’s no confirmation as to whether he will play at the Paris Olympics games.
