Novak Djokovic has expressed a strong desire to compete in the ATP 250 tournament in Athens. Many fans have wondered why the world’s top player is so eager to take part in a smaller event in Greece. The reason is simple — the tournament is owned by his family, and his brother, Djordje Djokovic, serves as the event’s director.
Djordje recently shared updates about Novak’s physical condition. According to him, Novak is recovering well and working hard to regain his full fitness. The team is optimistic that he will be in great shape for the upcoming tournaments. He said in a pre-tournament presser:
He won’t be playing the Paris Masters 1000, but he’s working hard to recover. He has specific issues that worsened in Shanghai and at the Six Kings Slam. But he’s feeling good now and is doing everything he can to be in the best possible condition to play in Athens. He’s a genius when it comes to preparation and recovery, and that’s why he’s the best tennis player in the world. He’s also made it clear how important it is for him to play at the ATP World Tour in Athens, in front of the Greek fans.
The Athens ATP event holds special significance for the Djokovic family. It represents not just another competition but a project they are personally invested in. Their goal is to make it a successful and respected stop on the tennis calendar.
Novak’s decision to play there highlights his commitment to supporting his family’s efforts. It also reflects his passion for promoting tennis in regions where the sport is still developing.
Novak Djokovic skips Paris Masters
Former World No.1 Novak Djokovic announced on Tuesday that he will not compete in the upcoming Paris Masters. However, he expressed hope to return for the tournament next year. The Serbian star has been selective about his schedule in recent seasons as he continues his pursuit of a record 25th Grand Slam title.

Djokovic has not played since his semifinal loss to world number 204 Valentin Vacherot at the Shanghai Masters earlier this month. During that match, he appeared unwell, vomiting courtside and requiring medical attention several times.
His physical issues continued last week in Saudi Arabia, where he was forced to withdraw from his third-place match against American Taylor Fritz at the Six Kings Slam exhibition. The 38-year-old has since focused on recovery and rest.
In addition to Djokovic, world number 10 Holger Rune will also miss this year’s Paris Masters. Rune recently revealed that he underwent surgery on his Achilles tendon and will sit out the event, which runs from October 27 to November 2.
Serena Williams gives honest thoughts on Carlos Alcaraz potentially breaking Novak Djokovic’s Grand Slam record
Carlos Alcaraz has quickly risen as one of tennis’s biggest stars, and talk about whether he can surpass Novak Djokovic’s Grand Slam record has grown louder each season. With six major titles already at just 22 years old, fans and analysts alike see him as the future of the sport — and now, even Serena Williams has weighed in.

Williams said at a press conference in Spain:
Of course I know it well; the Spanish have been at the top for a long time. There’s Rafa [Nadal], of course, but there are many other wonderful tennis players. [Carlos] Alcaraz is doing incredible things. I’m a huge fan of Alcaraz. I always cheer him on. At this point, anything is possible. When [Roger] Federer started, no one thought he could surpass [Pete] Sampras, and he did. Then Rafa did the same, and then [Novak] Djokovic. Carlos is very young, he has great rivals, but of course it’s possible. Records are there to be broken.
When asked during a recent press conference in Spain, Williams said she believes Alcaraz has the potential to reach or even break Djokovic’s record of 24 Grand Slam titles. The former world number one praised the Spaniard’s talent, mentality, and maturity on the court, describing him as a player with “the hunger and drive that champions need.”
Williams, who retired with 23 majors of her own, said that watching Alcaraz reminds her of the passion and energy she once brought to the court. She noted that his ability to adapt and perform under pressure is what sets him apart at such a young age.
The American legend is in Spain to receive the 2025 Princess of Asturias Award. Ahead of the ceremony, she spoke fondly about Spanish tennis and expressed her excitement for what Alcaraz might achieve in the years to come.
