Serbian tennis legend Novak Djokovic says he is eagerly waiting for the 2024 Paris Olympics to begin so that he can get a chance to represent his country in one of the oldest and biggest sporting events in the world. The 24-time Grand Slam champion also promises to correct his mistakes from the previous editions and put on a better show this time.
As Djokovic has only managed a bronze medal so far at the Olympics, he is eyeing a gold this time. The Serbian also talked about missing the chance to be the flag-beared for his country. Djokovic said that he enjoys his time at the Games because it is a different feeling altogether.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion feels that it is “unlike anything else” in his tennis career. Djokovic says he is eagerly waiting for the Games to begin.
I won the bronze medal quite a long time ago in Beijing 2008. I had the greatest honor of carrying the Serbian flag. I haven't had the experience of the opening ceremony since London 2012. So, I hope I will be able to experience that and really enjoy my experience at the Olympic Games because it's like nothing else. Representing your country which is a huge honor and being part of the oldest sports event, it's unlike anything else in my individual tennis career.Novak Djokovic is heard saying in a video shared by ITF.
Novak Djokovic hoping to perform better this time at Olympic Games
Novak Djokovic further talked about how it feels to play at the Olympics. The Serbian said that it is a unique experience. He says that living in the Olympic Village is inspiring for him. He also talked about learning from his past mistakes and putting on a better show at this year’s Olympics.
The Olympics are so unique and just being that village, you feel incredibly inspired and proud to be there. But also I am going to learn from my previous Olympic experiences and try to keep my routine so that I can perform my best.Novak Djokovic said.
Notably, Novak Djokovic has participated in four editions of the Olympic Games so far in his career. While the Serbian clinched a bronze medal on his debut at the Games, Djokovic has not been able to win the gold medal yet. He finished in fourth position at the London and Tokyo Olympics in 2012 and 2020 respectively. Meanwhile, it was a disastrous campaign for him at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
This year as well, Djokovic is not in his best form, having not won a title yet in the season. It is to be seen of the Serbian can end the wait for a gold medal this year or if that one achievement will continue to elude Djokovic.
