World No.1 Novak Djokovic will be back in action at the Rome Masters after a well-deserved two week break. He last played at the Serbia Open where he was knocked out of the semi-final by Aslan Karatsev.

Before the Italian Open, Djokovic shared his views on various aspects of his game. He revealed that he is no more thinking about the No.1 ranking which is giving him flexibility to skip tournaments.

Novak said: “I am not paying too much attention to rankings nowadays, after I have achieved the historic number one. It was the focus, but now my priority are Grand Slams, I want to peak for those.”

Djokovic was knocked out shockingly early on in Monte Carlo too. He lost to Dan Evans in the Round of 16 in straight sets. The Serb admitted that he didn’t play well in Monte Carlo and Belgrade and said that he improves in Rome this week and Belgrade 2 alter on. The top seed also also said that he hopes to peak at the right moment, i.e. at Roland Garros.

He said: “I do prepare specific amount of tournaments in order to prepare for Slams. I didn’t play well in MC and Belgrade, but I hope to change that in Rome and in Belgrade 2. I am building up in order to peak in Paris, that is where I want to play my best.”

The top seed will open his campaign against American Taylor Fritz in the second round at Foro Italico on Tuesday. The duo also met at Australian Open earlier this year where Djokovic prevailed in 5 sets.
