Novak Djokovic has sent a strong message to all the critics and pundits that he is still there to write his own history and continue to break records. With 24 singles Grand Slam titles, Djokovic has broken many records already, and eyes a few more before hanging up his racket.
In his latest match against Francisco Cerundolo at the French Open, the Serbian broke a couple of records after an intense five-setter match. After the match, Djokovic was informed that he surpassed Roger Federer for the most number of wins in Grand Slam events (370). Furthermore, he also overtook Federer for the most number of quarter-final appearances in Majors and stands alone on 59.
It’s always nice to hear that I’ve broken another record. I started writing my own history a long time ago. I am still focusing on that, and I was always willing to be transparent about my desire to chase new records. I started writing my own history a long time ago. Novak Djokovic withdraws from the ongoing French Open
While there are numerous records continuing to be tumbled by him on a daily basis, no one can deny that the French Open defending champion Novak Djokovic is having an abysmal year by his standards. After a forgetful first quarter, his year got from bad to worse with another failed quarter of the year on clay. However, Djokovic found his mojo at the French Open and started to play tennis with a changed mindset.
For the first time, Djokovic managed to pass through the rounds without much struggle and then played two excellent matches in the third and fourth rounds respectively to find himself in the quarterfinals. Just as things smoothened out, Djokovic suffered an injury to his right knee, forcing him to withdraw from the tournament.
I am really sad to announce that I have to withdraw from #rolandgarros. I played with my heart and gave my all in yesterday’s match and unfortunately, due to a medial meniscus tear in my right knee, my team and I had to make a tough decision after careful consideration and consultation.Novak Djokovic’s message on Instagram
He had a fall in his match against Cerundolo which caused a meniscus tear in his right knee. With this, Casper Ruud had made it to the semi-finals of the French Open and would use the extra day of rest to try to enter into the match feeling 100%.
