Novak Djokovic chose not to comment on the lawsuit filed by the Professional Tennis Players’ Association (PTPA) against the sport’s governing bodies. The lawsuit was filed in a New York court, accusing the ATP, WTA, International Tennis Federation, and International Tennis Integrity Agency of unfair practices.
Djokovic co-founded the PTPA with Vasek Pospisil in 2020, but he is not one of the 12 players listed as plaintiffs in the case. He emphasized that his efforts to improve player rights go beyond prize money. He also expressed his wish to keep the sport united.
I’m sorry, but I want to move on from that. I’ve said what I had to say. Thank you.
Novak Djokovic said in his post-match press conference
Carlos Alcaraz distanced himself from the lawsuit, saying he was surprised by it. Meanwhile, Nick Kyrgios supported the move, calling it an important moment for players to be heard. Coco Gauff and Aryna Sabalenka said they had not studied the lawsuit in detail. However, both agreed that players should receive a bigger share of tournament revenue in the future.
Novak Djokovic hopes to recover his form in Miami
For the first time in over 15 years, Novak Djokovic is stepping onto the court without one of his greatest strengths. The best athletes often intimidate their rivals before the match even begins. This mental edge has helped Djokovic for years.

Young players facing Djokovic in big tournaments often feel pressure. Seeing a 24-time Grand Slam champion across the net can be overwhelming. This fear has given him an advantage over many opponents. But now, that aura seems to be fading.
Even the greatest players slow down with time. Djokovic himself admitted last year that he was not at his best. He failed to win a Grand Slam and only showed glimpses of his former brilliance. With his 38th birthday approaching, opponents now see him as beatable.
Last year, Djokovic lost to players he once dominated, including Luca Nardi, Alejandro Tabilo, Tomas Machac, and Alexei Popyrin. This month, Botic van de Zandschulp defeated him easily in Indian Wells. As he prepares for Miami, even Djokovic may wonder if his best days are behind him.
Novak Djokovic’s record in Miami Open
Novak Djokovic entered the 2025 Miami Open with 44 career wins at the event. His success comes from winning six titles in 2007, 2011, 2012, and from 2014 to 2016.

With his opening-round victory against Rinky Hijikata, Djokovic increased his total wins in Miami to 45. This adds to his strong record at the tournament.
One of his biggest achievements is winning the Sunshine Double after his Miami victories. He has done this four times, in 2011, 2014, 2015, and 2016. Despite his past success, Djokovic has not played in Miami often in recent years. The 2025 tournament marks his first appearance there since 2019.
