Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz reunited behind the scenes at the Shanghai Masters. The pair shared a warm embrace reminding fans of their recent rivalry. Djokovic is playing in his first tournament since the US Open, while Alcaraz comes fresh off his China Open victory.

Djokovic has played fewer tournaments than any other Top 10 players this season and is without a title. On the other hand, Alcaraz has flourished this season winning four titles. The duo has met twice this season. The first was at the Wimbledon final, where Alcaraz stopped Djokovic from winning the title for the eighth time.

They then met again two weeks later at the Paris Olympics final. The time around, Djokovic meant business and earned his revenge against the Spaniard. He claimed his elusive gold medal and became the oldest men’s player to win the medal. The last tournament both stars featured in was at the US Open.

Both suffered a shocking early exit in the Grand Slam event. Back together in the Shanghai Masters draw, the duo met each other behind the scenes. In their conversation, Djokovic noted how many more tournaments Alcaraz has been playing compared to him.

Novak Djokovic called Carlos Alcaraz a “little titan” during their conversation. Alcaraz remarked, “You’re too much on the court, I’m outside of the court,” to which Djokovic replied, laughing, “I’m enjoying my time off the court, man.” Alcaraz then checked in, asking, “Everything all good?”

The World No. 4 confirmed he was doing well as he walked off. Fans will be looking forward to seeing them face each other squarely on the court in the Shanghai Masters.

Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz began their Shanghai Masters campaign with opening victories. Djokovic saved two match points in the second set tiebreak to beat American Alex Michelsen 7-6(3), 7-6(9). It was the Serbian’s first win on tour since his loss to Alexei Popyrin at the US Open.

Alcaraz recorded his 10th consecutive win after cruising past 19-year-old Shang Juncheng of China. The Spaniard earned a 6-2, 6-2 win to reach the third round. The 21-year-old is in rampaging form and won his fourth title this season at the China Open.

Djokovic will face either Flavio Cobolli or Stan Wawrinka in the next round, while Alcaraz will face another Chinese player, Wu Yibing. Alcaraz is the favorite to win the Shanghai Masters after claiming the China Open. However, Djokovic has won the Shanghai title a record four times and has always revealed his love for the tournament.
