World no.1 Novak Djokovic won his 18th grand slam last month, defeating Russian Daniil Medvedev in the final at Melbourne. This was also Novak’s 9th Australian Open title.

A few days back Srdjan Djokovic, Novak’s father spoke about how the rules seem to be different for Federer/Nadal and Novak. He was talking about the disqualification incident in last year’s US Open. Novak Djokovic, the favorite to win the tournament, accidently hit a line judge and was disqualified after that.

Now he has taken a dig at Novak’s arch-rival and 20-time grand slam champion Roger Federer. He commented that despite the fact that he broke Federer’s record, the world media do not show enough respect for Novak.

He said: “Obviously, they don’t have the best opinion of us and we are constantly bothering them. To tell you the truth, I don’t want to be a part of their world either. It seems to me that their world is twisted.”

He criticized my son because he knew that Novak would have been better than him: Papa Djokovic on Federer

He pointed out that his statements bothered the foreign media, but that he did not intend to change his rhetoric.

“Well, I’m really sorry that they don’t like it,” he said.

“I’m just telling the truth, what they don’t like, what should I do? They slander him so much, say so many disgusting things about him that it’s just unbelievable. He will never have such a champion again.”

“15 years ago (2006 Davis Cup) he criticized my son because he knew that Novak would have been better than him. At the time I said Federer was a great champion, the best player at the time, but not a great man.”

Novak is currently training in Monte-Carlo ahead of the clay season.
