Serbian tennis legend Novak Djokovic finally completed his puzzle on Sunday (August 4) by clinching the gold medal in the men’s singles event at the 2024 Paris Olympics. He beat reigning French Open and Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz in the final to win the one title that had eluded him his entire career.
The match was intensely fought, with both sets decided in the tiebreaker. Djokovic fought hard every time he was pushed to the brink by Alcaraz. The two players engaged in long rallies and the match never looked one-sided.
Djokovic played much better against Alcaraz than he did in the Wimbledon final a few weeks back, where he was beaten in straight sets. Before the match, he even admitted that the Spaniard was the clear favorite to win the gold medal.
However, having beaten the favorite to win the gold, the 24-time Grand Slam champion stated that there was some divine intervention in the final. He claimed that he was being guided by an external force when he needed some help.
Novak Djokovic admits there could not have been a better script for his gold medal win
Novak Djokovic admitted that there could not have been a better script for his gold medal win. The Serbian said that he was imagining this match against Carlos Alcaraz right from the moment he set foot in Paris for the Summer Games.

Djokovic said that it would have only been befitting for him to win the gold medal after he beat the best player at the tournament. He also talked about the final and how it all aligned.
Winning in the two longest sets ever, both decided in tiebreakers with incredible points in crucial moments when everything was on the line—my psyche, his, and our bodies. In those moments, I felt like I was holding my breath; I couldn’t exhale, just tightened up and moved automatically as if some force was carrying and guiding me. So, I answered that God is great and I always feel that intervention, and I believe it helped today and in achieving gold at the Olympics.Novak Djokovic said
Djokovic was not the favorite to win the gold medal considering how he had struggled this season. The former World No. 1 had not won any title this year nor had he registered a win against a top-10 player. However, all these did not matter in the end as the Serbian managed to reign supreme on Court Philippe Chatrier.
