Novak Djokovic‘s disappointing year continues as he remains without a title so far. Typically, the Serbian starts strong with a win in Australia, but Jannik Sinner thwarted his hopes in the semi-finals. Djokovic then competed at the Indian Wells Masters but was eliminated in the early stages.
With Monte Carlo as his third tournament of the year, Djokovic had a clear path through to the finals. After some dominant performances, he faced an enormous challenge in the form of Casper Ruud in the semis. It was a good battle between the two, as they pushed each other for the finals place.
However, it was the Norwegian ace who emerged victorious in the third set, sending Djokovic packing his kitbag. This was the third tournament of the year that the Serbian failed to even make it to the finals. However, there has been some improvement in the Serbian outside of tennis. He has improved his Instagram captions after every match in Monaco.
Following two strong captions celebrating his wins, he posted a more reflective caption after his loss. Djokovic made sure to be tuning into the Gen-Z slang, even while describing his defeat.
Never easy to take the L. Well done Casper. Onwards...Novak Djokovic wrote
An avid Djokovic follower would know that this is the first time he has used this slang on his social media. Nonetheless, it was a very apt description of the tough loss.

After the loss, Djokovic posted a few pictures on Instagram congratulating Ruud. To this, even the Norwegian replied.
Thank you Novak. See you soon!replied Ruud to Djokovic’s post
This was the first time that Ruud beat Djokovic, and even created history with this win.
Not only did this victory mark his first-ever win against a top-3 player, but he also became the first Norwegian to do so. Until now, Ruud had a 0-11 losing record against the Top 3 players. He now moves on to the finals to take on the in-form Stefanos Tsitsipas for the trophy.
