Novak Djokovic, world number one has faced a lot of criticism from the Australian media in the past week. The Serbian sent a letter to Craig Tiley, CEO of Tennis Australia with suggestions to improve the quarantine conditions in Melbourne for the 72 members being subjected to hard quarantine. Many people have termed this act of the Serbian as foolish and selfish.

However, the Serbian has received support from various other sources. Firstly, Craig Tiley asserted that Novak Djokovic’s letter was a request and were not demands, as the media put it. Former legends, Boris Becker and Chris Evert also asserted the Serb did nothing wrong.

“Novak Djokovic has gone out of his way to stand up for other players in Australia,” Jim Courier stated. “He was being a leader and it just came off wrong in the public and I hope the Australian public will give him another chance to at least explain himself,” he added.

He is sensitive to public opinion: Courier on Djokovic

Courier defends Djokovic and states that the Serbian is sensitive to public opinion

After facing the anger of the Australian media, Novak Djokovic himself issued a statement that said that his actions were misunderstood. Jim Courier, who is also a top tennis commentator agreed with Djokovic and stated that the Serb was sensitive to public opinion.

Jim Courier believes that in spite of winning 17 Grandslam titles, Djokovic does not get enough respect from fans because he is competing in the same era as Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.

“He is sensitive to public opinion,” Courier said. “He spends energy trying to court public opinion and based on what he’s done on the court he should be a huge fan favorite. He’s just come up at a time that a lot of the fan base have decided they’re a Roger (Federer) fan or a Rafael (Nadal) fan,” he added.
