I hope to never recover from that (winning the Olympics), because it’s the best set of feelings that I ever had as an athlete. On the court but also off, when we went back to celebrate with our people, all of the Serbian Olympians that managed to win a medal. It was a very unique moment for me. I’ll never forget it, and I’ll try to use it as a great confidence boost for what’s coming up in New York in the next few weeks. I haven’t had much time to recover or much time to train. I tried to get the most out of the few weeks that I had.
Novak Djokovic said in an interview with EuroSport

Djokovic avenged his Wimbledon final loss against Carlos Alcaraz in the Olympic Gold medal match. The Serbian won 7-6, 7-6 to secure the only missing accolade in his career. At the US Open, he will hope to surpass Margaret Court as the greatest Grand Slam singles champion of all time. He is currently tied with the legendary Australian at 24 Grand Slam singles titles.

Novak Djokovic starts bid for 25th Grand Slam title at the US Open

Second seed Novak Djokovic made a successful return to the hard court season with a straight-set victory over Radu Albot. This was Djokovic’s first hard-court event since Indian Wells in March.

This tournament also marked Djokovic’s first competition since winning his first Olympic Singles Gold at the Paris Olympics. Despite some shaky stats, including ten double faults, a 47 percent first serve rate, and 40 unforced errors, the former World No.1 remained in control throughout.

Djokovic won his first-ever ATP Head2Head match against Albot with a 6-2, 6-2, 6-4 scoreline, finishing in just over two hours. The match ended just before midnight, with the Serbian in full command.

Before the match, Djokovic joked about seeking revenge on Albot, who had beaten his brothers Marko and Djordje. With this win, the 37-year-old secured his 78th victory at Arthur Ashe Stadium, tying Roger Federer for the most wins at the US Open (89). He is now aiming for his 25th Grand Slam title and his 100th ATP singles title at Flushing Meadows.
