Second seed Novak Djokovic is a man playing as if there is no finish line. The Serbian has won everything there is to win after claiming his first Olympic Singles Gold medal earlier this month. However, Djokovic seeks to make further history at the US Open. As the defending champion, the 37-year-old knows how difficult it is to defend the title in New York, but he backs himself to break this curse.

Roger Federer, in 2008, was the last man to defend the US Open title. The Swiss Maestro secured his fifth consecutive title at Flushing Meadows that year by defeating Andy Murray in the final.

Hopefully, that changes this year. My approach is always the same. I will try to win the title. I’m as motivated as ever for a Grand Slam.
Novak Djokovic said in the US Open pre-tournament press conference

However, Djokovic has won the US Open four times and has never defended the title. In his last three events as the defending US Open champion, he has lost twice in the finals to Murray and Stan Wawrinka, respectively. Additionally, he lost in the fourth round to Wawrinka in the 2019 edition.

Novak Djokovic seeks further history at the US Open

Novak Djokovic has arrived in New York in a bid to defend his US Open title. The Serbian defeated Daniil Medvedev last year to win his fourth title at Flushing Meadows.

Despite winning the Olympic Singles gold medal earlier this month, he still has more storylines to write in his career. Some of them could be realized at this year’s US Open.

Djokovic is seeking to become the first player after Roger Federer to win three different Grand Slams at least five times. The Swiss has won the Australian Open six times, Wimbledon eight times, and the US Open five times. Additionally, Djokovic hopes to secure his 100th ATP singles title at the US Open. Only Federer (103) and Jimmy Connors (109) have won more ATP singles titles.
