Novak Djokovic opened his 2025 season with a fine performance at the Brisbane International. But, the 37-year-old was without his new coach Andy Murray, who he partnered with ahead of the new season. Following his win over Rinky Hijikata, Djokovic revealed the reason why Murray wasn’t with him at the tournament.
On Monday (December 30), Djokovic made his first appearance on the court after over two months away. The Serbian earned his first doubles victory of the season alongside his partner Nick Kyrgios. He continued with the momentum on Tuesday (December 31), delivering a perfect maximum efficient display from his baseline.
The former World No.1 wasted no time controlling the match against Rinky Hijikata in the first set after winning 6-3. The home favorite increased his tempo in the second set but Djokovic showed his experience by delivering his typical precise serves and struck the ball cleanly. He triumphed 6-3, 6-3 in an hour and 15 minutes at the Pat Rafter Arena.
However, Djokovic will team up with Murray ahead of the Australian Open in January as he bids for his 25th Major title. But fans were wondering why the British legend had not linked up with Djokovic in Brisbane. Djokovic said during his on-court interview that the three-time major winner was skiing with his family.
