Novak Djokovic was all praise for Andy Murray while speaking about his long-term rival after his second-round match at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships. With Murray playing his doubles match on Thursday (July 4), all eyes were on him to see how he would fare.
The Serbian stated that Murray made as big an impact on his career as the likes of Rafael Nadal and Roer Federer. He also recalled facing the Brit in the final of the four Grand Slams on the ATP tour.
Finals of different grand slams… all grand slams actually. Which I think he could be the only player I’ve faced in all 4 finals of the Slams. Maybe Rafa as well, I’m not sure. But he’s definitely one of the three guys other than Roger and Rafa who has impacted my career and my growth as a tennis player.
Novak Djokovic said at a press conference
Murray’s men’s doubles campaign ended early, with him and his brother Jamie Murray losing 7-6(6), 6-4 to Rinky Hijikata and John Peers in the first round. It’s not the end of the former World No. 1’s Wimbledon campaign however, as he will be in action in the mixed doubles alongside Emma Raducanu.

Novak Djokovic opens up on his performance against Jacob Fearnley
World No. 2 Novak Djokovic survived a scare against Jacob Fearnley in the second round at Wimbledon. The Serbian had started the match strongly, winning the first two sets. However, he soon lost his momentum and gave the British rookie a chance to mount a comeback.
Fighting to save his position in the tournament, the Serbian bounced back in the nick of time, breaking at the right moment in the fourth set to seal the win 6-3, 6-4, 5-7, 7-5. Later, he refused to make excuses for his performance and instead praised his opponent for rising to the occasion.

I was feeling ok. Feeling alright. Don’t wanna be looking for any excuses for the performance today. Credit to Jacob. On my side, I should’ve done things better in the 3rd when I was a breakup.

The Serbian will take on Alexei Popyrin in the third round of SW19. He has beaten the Australian in both of their meetings so far, with the latest coming at the Australian Open earlier this year.
