Novak Djokovic is consistently omitted from the Greatest ever discussion, claims Sania Mirza. She adds that when talking about the greatest ever player people like to talk about Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal only. Novak Djokovic is right up there with them. And he has eighteen Grand Slams to give credence to that claim, believes Sania Mirza.
In her own words, “Sure, we talk about 18 Grand Slams and possibly, he is always in contention for ‘ the greatest ever’ (tag).”
Novak Djokovic is much younger than Roger reminds Sania Mirza
Sania who has shared a great working relationship with Novak and knows him well. She believes that each time people forget to mention Novak’s name, he does something to remind them he is there. She also reminded everyone that Novak is much younger than Roger Federer and also younger than Rafael Nadal.
In her own words, “ You talk about Rafa and Roger all the time and some people almost forget about Novak for a second and then he comes out and then he reminds us a) he is younger than them, much younger than Roger, b) he has 18 Grand Slams,” Sania said.
Federer turned thirty nine this year, and has been out with a knee injury since last year. And at this age to make a comeback and win slams, looks highly unlikely. With Rafael Nadal, its again an issue with fitness. The brand of tennis he plays, and the physicality that demands is huge. How many more seasons can Nadal’s body go through this grind. The more one thinks about it, one starts to believe maybe that Djokovic is destined to be the best ever.
