Nick Kyrgios, the Australian tennis star loves to remain in the headlines even when he is not playing on-court. Kyrgios seemed really agitated by Novak Djokovic’s demands for better quarantine facilities for players in Melbourne last week. He labelled the Serb as ‘tool’ and also stated that Djokovic will never be the greatest tennis player in his view because of his off-court antics.

In his latest dig at Djokovic, Kyrgios has said that the Serbian is one of the biggest stars in tennis and calls him the ‘LeBron James’ of Tennis. However, he feels that the Serbian’s actions do not set a good example for other players to follow.

I think it’s very important (to hold players accountable) especially when it’s one of our leaders of our sport,” Kyrgios said. “Djokovic is one of our leaders of our sport. He’s technically our LeBron James in the way he has to be setting an example for all tennis players,” Kyrgios told CNN.

Kyrgios hits out at Djokovic yet again

Nick Kyrgios believes that Novak Djokovic did things amidst the global pandemic when the time was not right. He is referring to the infamous ‘Adria Tour’ in the Balkan states which was organized by Novak Djokovic. The tour was held in June and ended in a huge controversy after several covid positive tests.

When he was doing some of the things he was doing during the global pandemic, it just wasn‘t the right time. I know everyone makes mistakes, some of us go off track sometimes, and I think we have to hold each other accountable,” said Kyrgios.

Novak Djokovic also found himself in another controversy before the US Open 2020 as he co-founded the Professional Tennis Players Association (PTPA) which many players including Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer believe was not the right time to do so.

We‘re colleagues at the end of the day; we compete against each other, we play in the same sport. No one else was really holding him (Djokovic) accountable. Everyone loses their way a little bit, but I think he just needs to pull it back,” Kyrgios added.

I‘m not doing any of this sort of stuff for media attention: These are the morals I’ve grown up with and I was just trying to do my part,” the Australian concluded.
