Novak Djokovic reflects on his Olympic gold medal
Novak Djokovic has skipped the build-up to the US Open tournaments after his successful campaign at the Paris Olympics. He won the gold by beating Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets to complete the Career Golden Slam.
Amidst hard-court tournaments in North America, Djokovic returned to Serbia and received a heartwarming welcome from the people. While addressing them, he talked about why he was determined to take home the medal, which ‘without false modesty’, he called his greatest achievement.
I entered these Olympics without a trophy, I had an injury. Many questioned the quality of my tennis. Few people considered me a favorite, but I secretly believed. I knew this might be my last chance to win gold. It was one of my best tournaments; I didn’t lose a set. I felt the support of the people.Novak Djokovic said in front of a crowd in Belgrade
Djokovic skipped the Canadian Open and the Cincinnati Open. He will directly enter the US Open without much practice on hard courts to bid for his historic 25th Grand Slam trophy.
