Well, who would have thought Novak Djokovic would pull off the viral KPop Demon Hunters‘ dance step? The Serbian great, right after winning the last point of the match, due to Taylor Fritz‘s double fault in the quarterfinal of the US Open on Tuesday (September 2), broke into an impromptu Soda Pop dance as fans on Arthur Ashe Stadium cheered on.
In the on-court interview, Djokovic revealed that the celebration was for his daughter Tara‘s eighth birthday. After his victory over Jan-Lennard Struff in the fourth round, Djokovic confessed that Tara was not happy that he would be absent from the birthday party. Djokovic also dedicated that win to Tara by producing the now-famous violin celebration.
Well, it’s 20 minutes to midnight, here the second of September. It’s my daughter’s birthday, so this is a big present for her. Actually, the dance in the end, it was…I probably… She’s going to rate me tomorrow, how was the dance, because she told me how to dance. It’s KPop Demon Hunters, and Soda Pop is the name of the song.
Novak Djokovic said during his on-court interview after beating Taylor Fritz
The animated musical fantasy, KPop Demon Hunters, released on Netflix in June this year, has become the most-watched film ever on the platform. Soda Pop is sung by Andrew Choi, Danny Chung, Kevin Woo, samUIL Lee, and Neckwav.

Obviously, it’s a big thing globally for teenagers and for kids, but I didn’t know about it before. My daughter told me a few months ago about it, so… We’re at home doing different choreographies, and this is one of them, so hopefully I’ll make her smile when she wakes up tomorrow morning.
Novak Djokovic added
The 38-year-old will be playing the fourth Grand Slam semifinal this year, and will also be the oldest semifinalist, just like in the previous three Majors. His victory over Fritz means a perfect 11-0 head-to-head lead.

Taylor Fritz blames bad decision-making after losing to Novak Djokovic
Novak Djokovic committed a total of eight double faults to Taylor Fritz‘s five. At the press conference, Fritz said Djokovic made a lot of mistakes, but his own mistake was that he couldn’t capitalize on those errors. Only two out of 13 break points he converted, including missing the first nine break points.

Fritz wanted to win points in crucial moments, and that’s what he failed to do. The American ace also admitted that he needed to serve better.
But you know, at the end of the day, that’s one of the things that makes like the great players great, is like they win the big points. And that’s something that I kind of touched on before the match, is like I’m going to need to go out and take those points from him.
Taylor Fritz said at the press conference
Djokovic will now be hoping to reach a Major final for the first time since the 2024 Wimbledon. In the previous three Majors this year, Djokovic crashed out of all the semifinals, losing at the French Open and Wimbledon to Jannik Sinner in straight sets; while his Australian Open campaign was ruined by an injury.
This time, instead of Sinner in the semifinals, Djokovic will be meeting Carlos Alcaraz, which will also be their first clash in the tournament, as well as their fifth one in Grand Slam events.
They are tied at 2-2 in Majors after Djokovic’s win at the 2023 Roland Garros semifinals and this year’s Australian Open quarterfinal, and Alcaraz’s two Wimbledon final wins in 2023 and 2024. The five-time Grand Slam champion trails 3-5 in the head-to-head matchups, also losing the 2024 Paris Olympics gold medal to him.
