A good and reliable measure to know if a player is worthy of being categorized as a strong performer is the number of wins they managed to get against the Top-10 players on the ATP ranking charts.

As the season is done and dusted, World No.1 Novak Djokovic emerges on the top of the charts by securing 10 impressive victories against the Top-10 ranked players in men’s tennis.

The ATP rankings of players reveal the most consistent players in the sport. The Top-10 is usually a place where the competition is high and the matches are always awaited with anticipation.

Thiem and Djokovic finish the year on a high!

Dominic Thiem and Novak Djokovic

The Serbian superstar managed to bag 10 victories against the top-10 this season. However, he also faced three defeats from the hands of Rafael Nadal (in the French Open Final), Dominic Thiem and Daniil Medvedev (both at the year-end ATP Finals).

The graph has been quite the same for the World No.1, who has managed to dominate his Top-10 rivals for years.

Second in line comes World No.3 Dominic Thiem who has had a fantastic season. The Austrian is also playing a crucial role in bridging the gap between the ‘Big Three’ and the next-gen players as the reigning US Open Champion is believed to a potential threat to the biggest names in tennis.

Holding a comfortable 8-4 win-loss record against the Top-10 players of men’s tennis, what’s more impressive about Thiem is his positive record against the ‘Big 3’ since 2019, which is a surprising 9 wins and only 3 defeats.

The Austrian has a 1-1 record with the Serbian great and holds a 2-0 record in his favor against World No.2, Rafael Nadal. Thiem now being a Grand Slam champion can move further ahead and displace the dominance of the Big 3 in the coming years.

Rafael Nadal shows poor stats; Jannik Sinner finds a place near the top

Rafael Nadal

The youngest ATP title winner, Jannik Sinner also features in this list on a high rank, to everyone’s surprise. Zverev, Tsitsipas, and Goffin fell prey to the teenager who holds a 3-4 record against the Top-10.

Rafa Nadal’s best is never unnoticed however, his lows get quite the attention given the level of the Spaniard.

The ‘King of Clay’ (until this year’s French Open) did not managed to get a win against the Top-10 and had infact lost twice. The Spaniard who dropped out from the US Open due to the pandemic had a poor 3-5 record against his Top-10 adversaries of 2020.
