The three-time Grand Slam champion joined the Serb’s team last year in November after retiring at the Paris Olympics. Under him, Djokovic reached the Australian Open semifinal (though he withdrew from it due to an injury) and the Miami Open final. But the Brit was not in his box during the Monte Carlo Masters and joined him again for the Madrid Open. Djokovic’s brother Marko Djokovic joined his team as a coach in The Principality.
The 37-year-old from Belgrade will be chasing his 100th title in the Spanish capital, last winning a title at the Paris Olympics by beating Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets. Since then, Nole advanced to two finals: at the Shanghai Masters and the Miami Open, losing both to World No.1 Jannik Sinner and Jakub Mensik, respectively.
Djokovic has never faced his second-round opponent Arnaldi before. Prior to setting up the clash with the Serbian great, the Italian came from a set down to kncok out Borna Coric.
Novak Djokovic doesn’t have great expectations for the Madrid Open
Novak Djokovic doesn’t know if he will be successful in Madrid Open as like the Monte Carlo Masters, he will enter the second clay-court Masters 1000 of the season with low expectations. Djokovic has implied that he wants to have match practice in these events so as to be in top form in the next two Grand Slam tournaments.

That’s where I really want to play my best tennis, Roland Garros and Wimbledon.
Novak Djokovc told Sky Sports
Djokovic so far has played six tournaments this season. He entered the Madrid Open following his opening round exit at the Monte Carlo Masters, losing to Alejandro Tabilo in straight sets.
If I can reach that desired level this tournament, that would be amazing. I don’t have really high expectations and I really hope I can get through the first hurdle and then we’ll take it from there.
Novak Djokovic added
Djokovic last lifted a Grand Slam title at the 2023 US Open. Since then, he came close to his 25th Major just once- when he reached the Wimbledon final last year but lost the title to Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets (it was his second consecutive defeat to the 21-year-old at SW19). If Djokovic reaches the final in the Spanish capital and wins the title, he will become the third player after Jimmy Connors and Roger Federer to win 100 or more titles.
Novak Djokovic is bidding to win his fourth Madrid Open title
Novak Djokovic is the winner of three Madrid Open titles which he lifted in 2011, 2016, and 2019. His opponents in those finals were Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, and Stefanos Tsitsipas.

His last match in Madrid was his semifinal clash with eventual winner Carlos Alcaraz in 2022. The 24-time Grand Slam champion was projected to square off against the four-time Grand Slam champion in the semifinals but the Spaniard, the winner of two Madrid Open titles, withdrew from the tournament due to his hamstring injury which he suffered during the Brisbane International final against Holger Rune.
