World No.1, Novak Djokovic is a class apart as he has proved himself to be the best player tennis has ever seen in terms of agility, efficiency and stamina, the tripod of factors needed to be the best. At 33 years of age, the Serbian is the favorite to surpass the unconquerable records of his biggest rivals, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal stand alone in a league of his own.

Yet the reputation of Djokovic today, as the leader of the men’s tennis circuit, lies in jeopardy. The 17-time Grand Slam winner has proved himself to be staggeringly stupid during the unprecedented times of a global pandemic, on multiple occasions and one that cannot be accepted at all.

Only the Serbian could smash a ball into a line judge’s face and get disqualified from the US Open in the process, and still not have that come close to being his most controversial moment of the year.

As the BBC revealed their ‘Sports Personality of the Year’ award winners, a British newspaper, Daily Mail thought they would take a look back on 2020 with an alternative awards ceremony, with a twist.

Novak must have secured his year-end No.1 rank for a record-equaling sixth time this year. However, the Serbian also earned his World’s No.1 Covidiot ranking this year for his decision of setting up the exhibition Adria Tour in the Balkans during the coronavirus lockdown in June.

Organized by Djokovic himself, the Adria Tour was a disaster as it was forced to shut down after the second of four scheduled events in the wake of the increasing global footprint of the coronavirus at the time, as even players on the tour were exposed to the deadly virus.

The unbelievable fact is that Djokovic deemed it as appropriate behavior to cross international borders with coronavirus in his body. Regardless of whether the Serb violated any norms, he chose to return home to Belgrade from Zadar.

The Adria Tour became the blueprint for how not to behave in times of crisis. It was not revealed as to how many were infected from the ill-judged tournament it is worrisome to think about how many people Djokovic came into contact with as he crossed borders to make his journey home and was even seen hugging, dancing in Belgrade nightclubs suggesting that he didn’t believe coronavirus even existed.

Novak Djokovic may have intended to spread compassion, but all he helped was a spread is coronavirus.

It is a time for Djoker fans to look away as his individual errors have earned him a ‘title’ in the time of Covid-19 as his individual brilliance.
