World No. 6 Novak Djokovic has expressed satisfaction with his tennis performance despite not winning his 25th Grand Slam title at the Australian Open. The Serb was unable to complete his semifinal match against Alexander Zverev due to an injury after losing the first set.

Djokovic showcased some remarkable moments in his game, particularly during his quarterfinal match against Carlos Alcaraz. The 37-year-old remains optimistic about having a strong season in 2025.

I always give myself opportunities, I cannot deny it. I am optimistic every time I face someone, and that’s what has led me to great heights in sports. With the type of game I showed in the victory in the quarterfinals against Alcaraz, I believe I would have had a great chance against Zverev in the semifinals and, if I had stayed healthy, also against Sinner… but well, it’s a shame to have to deal with these scenarios, with what could have happened. The level of tennis I reached in Australia is promising for the rest of the season.

Novak Djokovic said in an interview (H/T: Punto de Break)

He did not have the best season in 2024, as he failed to win a Grand Slam for only the second time since 2011. However, he achieved his long-term goal of winning an Olympic singles gold medal.

In 2025, he has yet to reclaim Grand Slam success. However, he hopes that his extended partnership with Andy Murray until Wimbledon will help him win big titles again.

Novak Djokovic could receive bad news before Roland Garros

Novak Djokovic improved his ATP ranking by reaching the Australian Open semi-finals. However, he is expected to drop in the rankings when the updated list is released on Monday. His withdrawal from the match against Alexander Zverev due to a hamstring injury has put a question mark on his future.

There are rumors that Djokovic might return earlier than expected to play at the Qatar Open. His ambassador role for Qatar could influence his decision. Meanwhile, other players in the top ten, like Alex de Minaur, are climbing the rankings. De Minaur is set to reach a career-high No. 6 after his strong performance in Rotterdam.

Tommy Paul and Casper Ruud could also move ahead of Djokovic soon. If his injury keeps him out until the clay-court season in April, he may drop outside the top eight. This could lead to tough early matchups against top players like Jannik Sinner, Zverev, or Carlos Alcaraz at the French Open.

Djokovic has said that rankings are not his priority. However, staying in the top eight would help his chances of winning his 25th Grand Slam title. Despite injury concerns, former British No. 1 Tim Henman believes Djokovic has one more major win in him. Henman thinks Wimbledon offers his best chance, where a victory would tie Roger Federer’s record of eight titles.
