Novak Djokovic will make his return to tennis at the ATP Erste Bank Open in Vienna due to commence from 26th October. The Serbian will be in action for the first time after his French Open final loss to Rafael Nadal. The World number 1 will be hoping to bounce back in the upcoming tournaments.
The next Grandslam scheduled is the Australian Open 2021. Djokovic enters Australia as the favourite and has enjoyed tremendous success down under. The Serbian has won 8 Australian Open titles and will be looking to forward to add 1 more to his tally which would take his total count to 18. However, Novak Djokovic has raised questions against the uncertainty regarding the Australian Open 2021 Quarantine rules.
The players are yet to know if the quarantine time has been reduced or not. As it stands, the players will take an early flight to Australia. “We still don’t know how the situation regarding the pandemic will unfold, whether Australia will shorten that quarantine period, if that is not the case, all tennis players will have to go to Australia much earlier. Tennis is privileged as a sport because it is lucky to have continued in a slightly changed and modified form,” said Novak Djokovic.
“Most tournaments have continued since the end of the season. What will happen after that, a small percentage of people know that we will all have to correct ourselves and adjust every day, to change personal, family plans, it irritates each of us, but we have to deal with it and accept those circumstances,” Djokovic continued.
Djokovic aims for a 9th Australian Open title
Novak Djokovic would be aiming to defend his Australian Open title in 2021. The Serb passed up some amazing opportunities this year to claim his 18th Grandslam title. He was knocked out of the US Open owing to default in the 4th round and lost in the French Open final to Rafael Nadal. The Serbian would be determined to win his 9th Australian Open title and take his tally to 18, just 2 behind Rafael Nadal and Federer’s tally of 20.
The Serbian is also targeting the record for most weeks at number one position. Djokovic is currently in his 291st week at the top and is just 19 behind Federer’s record of 310 weeks. If all goes in his favour, the Serbian can expect to break this record as early as 8th March, 2021.
