Novak Djokovic survived a tough test at Wimbledon by battling hard to beat Australian Alexei Popyrin in the third round. The Serbian delivered a glorious comeback and celebrated the win in style using his racket as a violin.

The 37-year-old began his Wimbledon campaign in great fashion winning his first-round match before beating Jacob Fearnley in four sets. He began his match against Popyrin in a very slow manner that saw him lose the opening set. However, for the rest of the match, Djokovic became excellently clinical as he did not lose his serve again in the match.

He prevailed 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6(3) in three hours and five minutes on Centre Court to reach the last 16. After his emphatic win, the 24-time Grand Slam did a violin-like celebration with his racquet before walking to the next to shake Popyrin. During his post-match conference, he was asked why he did the celebration. He explained that it was for his daughter Tara, who is learning Violin.

That was for Tara. My [daughter] has been playing violin for some time already, six months, and we agreed that I would celebrate that way. Stepanek was the first who did [that celebration] & I joked with him about it. We remembered when I played against him in 2007 at the US Open—5 sets in immense heat.

The victory was Djokovic’s 373rd career Grand Slam match win and his 50th since turning 35. Last year, he finished as runners-up at Wimbledon. Nole hopes to win the title this year despite just returning from a right knee surgery.

He beat Vit Kopriva in the first round and did the same against Jacob Fearnley. He shook off the scare against Australian Alexei Popyrin.

Well, I think each match it’s getting better. My feeling of movement, confidence in my movement. Particularly the little bit of an extreme balls, the reaching, sliding. I definitely felt better than in the second round match.
