Novak Djokovic knows very well that he is not playing according to the standard he has set for himself. This is the reason why, after his first-round win over Pierre-Hugues Herbert, Djokovic said that Grand Slam events are the ones where he gives his all, though he won’t get excited too soon.
Djokovic landed in Paris following his semifinal defeat to Tomas Machac in the ATP 250 Geneva Open. Before the event in Switzerland, the Serb lost four tournaments without progressing to the final. He called his performance in the French Open first round much better than the previous events but accepted that he has a long way to go.

I don’t want to get too excited. I thought it was a good performance from me, solid. Of course, I could have done better, I think, in the return games.Novak Djokovic said after the match
Although in the Australian Open, Djokovic lost in the semifinals to Jannik Sinner and produced unimpressive performances in the next few tournaments, it’s the Grand Slam events that motivate him to train harder.
It’s something that I have been saying from the beginning of the year and from the last years, that Grand Slams are the ones that are basically getting me up from bed every day and knowing that I have to hit the practice courts.Novak Djokovic added
The Serbian great is searching for his first title of the season and aiming for his record-extending 25th Grand Slam title, previously lifting the coveted trophy in last year’s US Open by beating Daniil Medvedev in the summit clash.
Novak Djokovic talked about his expectations ahead of the French Open
Players like Novak Djokovic, who loves to win big, display what they are capable of on the Grand Slam stage. With 24 major titles, he is just one victory away from becoming the player with the most Grand Slam titles in the history of men’s and women’s tennis. Before kickstarting his Roland Garros campaign, Djokovic reiterated that he prioritizes these major events.

Anything but a title for me is not satisfactory, so it always has been like that. I know it might sound arrogant to a lot of people, but I think I have a career that backs it up.Novak Djokovic said in the press conference
Djokovic will face Spain’s Roberto Carballes Baena in the second round scheduled on Thursday (May 30th).
