Serbian tennis legend Novak Djokovic is in a race against time to be fit for this year’s Wimbledon Championships. After tearing the medial meniscus in his right knee at the 2024 French Open, he underwent surgery and has been in rehabilitation since.

Although Djokovic is recovering quicker than anticipated, his Wimbledon participation remains doubtful, with the 37-year-old not eager to rush his comeback. The Serbian was recently seen practicing at the All England Club, where he reportedly spent two hours on the court.

However, when asked for confirmation of his participation in the grass Slam, Djokovic said that he had yet to decide on the issue and further stated that he would take part in the event only if he was confident about fighting for the title.

I didn’t come here to play a few rounds. If I know I can play close to my maximum or at maximum, then I'll play. If not, then I'll give somebody else a chance to play. I really will only play if I know I am in a state which is good enough to go far in the tournament and fight for the title, so that's the condition.
Novak Djokovic told BBC.

Novak Djokovic remains on the right path to recovery

Apart from the conditions that will determine his participation in the 2024 Wimbledon Championships, Novak Djokovic also spoke about the progress of his recovery. The Serbian said that he is on the right path and that gradual progress has kept him hopeful.

However, the 37-year-old clarified that he would not push himself to be 100% fit for the tournament.

Rehab is going in the right direction every single day, a few per cent better and better. That's what's giving me hope and encouragement to keep going. I'm taking things gradually. I'm not pushing myself yet 100% but I'm hoping that's going to come in the next few days.
Novak Djokovic said about his recovery.

Djokovic has not had a strong season so far. While he was struggling to win titles in the first phase of the year, a knee injury derailed his French Open campaign. The former World No. 1 is yet to win a title, which could add to the pressure ahead of Wimbledon, with the 2024 Paris Olympics also just around the corner.
