Novak Djokovic reveals his biggest motivation in tennis while comparing Grand Slam victories to playing for Serbia in international competitions

Novak Djokovic has admitted that representing Serbia has been one of the biggest motivations in his career. The 37-year-old took his country to the top when he won the singles gold medal at the Paris Olympics. He intends to do the same at the Davis Cup when his country plays Greece.
In 2010, Djokovic led his country to its first Davis Cup victory. The former World No. 1 tried to replicate the same in 2023 but succumbed to a 1-2 loss against eventual champions Italy. Earlier this year in February, Djokovic’s absence was heavily felt as Serbia lost 0-4 against Slovakia and fell out of the World Group 1 level.
On several occasions, Djokovic has shown how passionate he can be when representing Serbia. Recently at the Paris Olympics, he played his best tennis of the season to emerge victorious. Despite having arrived at the event without an ATP title to celebrate, he beat Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets to win the elusive Olympic gold.
Ahead of Serbia’s Davis Cup match against Greece on September 14 and 15, the 24-time Major champion revealed that he always feels as motivated to represent his country at international competitions as he does when playing at Grand Slams.
I’ve said it multiple times: my biggest motivation is playing for national team and Grand Slams. Everything else, doesn’t motivate me that much, and I use as preparation. Davis Cup is one of the biggest titles in my career.

Djokovic has an impressive singles record at the Davis Cup. The 37-year-old has a 40-8 win-loss record since making his tournament debut in 2004.
Novak Djokovic hints at representing Serbia at the Davis Cup for the last time
Novak Djokovic has admitted that he will probably be representing Serbia at the Davis Cup for the last time. Serbia will host Greece at the Aleksandar Nikolic Hall in Belgrade.
Greece are without their star player Stefanos Tsitsipas due to injury. While it has been not confirmed if Djokovic will be available to play against Greece, there’s significant hope that he will be available. Djokovic stated that this could be his final Davis Cup match on home soil, depending on the results.
I don't have any plans, only in the Davis Cup. I really just want to enjoy it because depending on the format and how things go in the coming years, it might be the last one in front of the home crowd in Davis Cup, so I'll enjoy that.Novak Djokovic said via TennisUptodate
If Djokovic doesn’t play against Greece, Serbia still has the likes of Dusan Lajovic, Hamad Medjedovic, and Miomir Kecmanovic in the team to help it earn a crucial victory.
