After a title less 2024 season beyond the Olympic gold, Novak Djokovic is in the quest for a 100th ATP title. Djokovic and his coach Andy Murray are now at the Indian Wells, with the Serb returning for the ‘Sunshine Doubles’ after six years. Along with Roger Federer, Djokovic has won the Indian Wells title a record of five times. The Serb’s last title at this tournament was in 2016, where he achieved a three-peat.
Djokovic will play Botic van de Zandschulp in the opening round of the Indian Wells Masters. This marks their second meeting on court, with their first meeting being in Astana in 2022 which Djokovic won.
I personally want to move on, like the same day we finished the tournament (the Australian Open), so I told him that. It took him some time to go back and reflect on the partnership, to talk to his people, his family, and see how much he wanted to commit to and where he could travel with me and work in terms of the schedule. I was very happy when he decided to continue, Indian Wells, Miami, and most of the clay court season.
Novak Djokovic said at the Indian Wells presser
Novak Djokovic has expressed his intention to continue his partnership with Andy Murray until the end of Roland Garros, and hopefully Wimbledon. Their partnership was first announced in November 2024, following Murray’s retirement from tennis earlier that year after the Paris Olympics.
Since then, Djokovic has played three tournaments, with Murray accompanying him to Melbourne and now Indian Wells. While Murray has not won any titles at the Indian Wells before, he was a finalist in 2009, where he lost to Rafael Nadal.
Novak Djokovic enjoys relationship with coach Andy Murray
Novak Djokovic’s title drought and recent injury had initially led many to speculate about how long the Serb will continue his tennis career. Djokovic commenced his 2025 season with the Brisbane International, where he made it to the quarterfinals.

He then went on to play at the Australian Open, where he was aiming for a 25th Grand Slam title. Djokovic had a fairly good run in Melbourne however, he had to retire from the semifinals due to a hamstring injury.
Speaking about his relationship with his coach Murray, Djokovic remarked that he enjoys it and it feels like they’re going through the process of getting to know each other on court in a different way than they’ve known each other for 25 years. Murray and Djokovic had a longstanding on-court rivalry, during which they faced each other 36 times, with Djokovic leading their head-to-head 25–11.
We’ll talk after Miami, obviously, but I think the plan is to continue until the end of Roland Garros, I think, and hopefully Wimbledon, as well. I’m enjoying the relationship with Andy. I still feel like we’re going through the process of getting to know each other on court in a different way than we’ve known each other for 25 years.
Novak Djokovic added
After his injury, Djokovic played his next tournament at the Qatar Open. However, his Doha campaign was surprisingly short, with the 37-year-old exiting after an opening-round defeat to Matteo Berrettini.
