In an exclusive interview with the Serbian news portal Sportal, he was candid about his chances and even some about the possibility of playing in the upcoming Australian Open in 2023.

When it comes to Australia, there are some positive signs, but unofficially,” he said.

Continuing his train of thought, he further noted, “We are communicating through my lawyers in Australia. They are communicating with the authorities in charge of my case. I hope to have an answer in the next few weeks–whatever that answer might be, but of course, I am hoping for a positive one – so that I have enough time to prepare for the start of the season if that start is going to happen in Australia,”

Djokovic, who is looking forward to his 22nd Grand Slam title yearns to make a positive return to the ATP Tour next season.

I want to go there, I am over what happened this year and I just want to play tennis. It is what I do best. Australia has always been the place where I have played my best tennis. The results speak for themselves, so I am always extra motivated to go there. This time even more, so,” he said.

Though there has been no answer from the Australian authorities on the issue of Djokovic’s return to Melbourne Park, he is quite optimistic.

I am hoping for a positive answer,” he said.

The ball is now in the Australian authorities’ court. Will they budge and give Novak Djokovic a chance to make his dream of winning the 22nd grand slam title in 2023 a realistic possibility? Well, fingers crossed.

The Australian Open is the first Grand Slam of the year. Every year in January, it is played in the beautiful city of Melbourne. It is one of the four most prestigious events of the ATP tour and tennis calendar.

Novak Djokovic played in the Australian Open for the first time in the 2005 season. Soon, he became a regular feature of the event in men’s single discipline.

He won his first singles title here in 2008, aged 20 years. He later won this Grand Slam three times in a row, that is in 2011, 2012, and 2013. After a bleak performance at the tournament back in 2014, he again became champion for two consecutive years, that is in 2015 and 2016.

He won again and made a hat-trick by winning the tournament consecutively again for three years in 2019, 2020, and 2021. He did not participate in the Australian Open in 2022 because he was not vaccinated. This year, though, he is certainly looking forward to gaining entry at Melbourne Park.
