The clip of Novak Djokovic shaking after he realized he had finally achieved what had been missing in his illustrious career went viral all over social media. Djokovic did not win a Grand Slam but it was his first Olympic gold medal, and he failed to stop his tears after the win.

Even though a few tennis players would argue that Grand Slams are more important than Olympic gold, Djokovic, the owner of 24 major titles, called wearing the gold medal his biggest achievement. After his first-round match at the US Open, Djokovic sat for an interview to recall the moments in Paris. Djokovic admitted again that at 37, he thought he probably had the “last chance” to taste glory in the quadrennial tournament.

Pride, joy, huge relief because I have been blessed to achieve many great things in our sport, and that was probably the big achievement that was missing. So the anticipation before this year's Olympic Games was great and I really wanted to well for my country, for my family, for myself.
Novak Djokovic told ESPN

Djokovic then talked about the footage where he could be seen hugging his daughter Tara after the win. The Serb said that was the time when he expressed all the emotions that he had suppressed before. The final in Paris was his first at the Olympics as, prior to that, he suffered “probably the most heartbreaking losses” of his career at the Olympics.

Novak Djokovic says losing to Carlos Alcaraz in Wimbledon final helped him win Olympic gold

Before the Olympic final, Novak Djokovic locked horns with Carlos Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final and lost in straight sets. The Serb, who battled fitness issues and poor form and reached his first final of the season at the SW19, was no match for the young Spaniard. Djokovic, however, feels the loss helped him to beat the 21-year-old in the Olympic final

It was like a movie script honestly. Playing Alcaraz in the final in a few weeks before at Wimbledon. He kicked my a*s on the court honestly, he played so well. But I think that actually worked in my favor because I felt like I probably cannot do worse than I did against him in the Wimbledon final.

After cruising past Radu Albot in the first round, Djokovic will face compatriot Laslo Djere in the next round at the US Open. Djokovic is the second seed in the tournament and is chasing his record 25th major title.
