Novak Djokovic suffered an injury during the second set against Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo in the fourth round of the French Open. The 37-year-old was given immediate medication to deal with his right knee problem.

He arrived at the court with a tape around his right knee but looked lively in the first set, winning 6-1. But, in the second set after a double fault, the Serbian walked slowly in heavy steps to his chair, as he kept stretching his right knee in pain. His trainer then rushed to him during the changeover, rubbing Djokovic’s leg while twisting his knee area.

Minutes later, after hitting a shot on the net, he tried stretching his right knee while looking at his team box at the Philippe-Chatrier court. The pain might have been caused by poor scheduling from the French Open organizers. The Serbian had played later Saturday into Sunday morning and four hours and 29 minutes against Italian Lorenzo Musetti in the third round.

Djokovic and Musetti were on the court until 3:07 am local time in Paris, which makes it a serious doubt if the 24-time Grand Slam Champion was 100% fit to face Cerundolo with a short time of rest. Several players, including Iga Swiatek, added their voices to the tennis match, ending the following morning with little time to sleep.

But, things would have been easier for Djokovic if the match against Cerundolo was in the night session, but it had already been slated for the afternoon. Despite Djokovic gaining confidence with the uncomfortable right knee, he was struggling to play well. As of the time of writing this article, Novak Djokovic and Francisco Cerundolo were playing 6-1, 5-7, 6-3 in favor of the latter.
