World No. 1 Novak Djokovic is back in business and taking apart opponents round by round. Making his clay debut for this season at the 2024 Monte Carlo Masters, Nole is into the quarter-finals on the back of consecutive straight-set victories.
In the third round, he was up against Italian youngster Lorenzo Musetti. In what was a rematch of their last year’s meeting, Djokovic avenged the loss in style. Despite the crowd against him, the Djoker remained unbothered, rather used it to fuel himself and won the match 7-5, 6-3.
Following his win over Musetti, the Serbian ace now boasts the highest win percentage at ATP-1000 events (since 1990), surpassing Rafael Nadal to claim the top spot with 82.2% of matches won. Nadal closely trails behind at 82.1%. As Djokovic continues his campaign in Monte Carlo, he has the opportunity to extend his lead over Nadal.
The top five players with the highest win percentages at ATP-1000 events are Roger Federer in third place with 77.9%, followed by Carlos Alcaraz in fourth with 76.7%. Andre Agassi rounds out the top five with a 74.1% success rate at the Masters level.
Novak Djokovic presented with another opportunity to avenge his loss
Djokovic backed up his cold response in the press conference about not being scared of Italian players by defeating Musetti. As he avenged his last year’s loss to the youngster, he has another chance to level scores with another opponent.

Back in the quarter-finals in Monte Carlo for the first time since 2019, he will now take on Alex de Minaur for a place in the semis. The in-form Aussie beat his compatriot Alexei Popyrin 6-3, 6-4 to set up this tie with Djokovic. de Minaur had earlier defeated Nole in the United Cup at the start of the season.
It was his first win against a World No. 1 player and helped Australia knock out Serbia from the tournament. With Nole at his best, he would fancy a revenge victory to storm into the semis and eye his third title in Monte Carlo.
