On his comeback from injury, World No. 2 Novak Djokovic won his opening-round match at the Wimbledon Championships in dominant fashion. Later, he expressed sympathy with other players who were struggling with injuries.

Djokovic specifically named Nick Kyrgios, who was commentating for Wimbledon after injury forced him to remain on the sidelines. While sympathizing with the Australian and other players, the Serbian thanked his stars for not having to be away from the sport for an extended period due to injuries.

It’s part of what you do. You just have to accept it and embrace it. I think Nick Kyrgios is in the commentary box. He’s been struggling a lot with injuries. Talking about major injuries he’s had a few. I’ve been very fortunate to not be away from tennis for long.

Novak Djokovic said in his on-court interview

Djokovic had picked up an injury in the fourth round of the French Open and underwent surgery immediately after. He worked hard to be fit in time for Wimbledon.

It was very good. I was very pleased with the way I moved on the court today. Obviously coming into Wimbledon this year, it was a little bit of a different circumstance for me because of the knee.

Djokovic has now extended his Wimbledon first-round win record to 19-0. He will take on Jacob Fearnley in the second round after the Brit beat Alejandro Moro Canas in straight sets in his opening match at SW19.
