‘I’ve always believed in freedom of choice,’ Novak Djokovic ridicules questions on the COVID-19 Vaccine
After a third-round disappointment at Monte-Carlo last week, Novak Djokovic is back to winning terms at Belgrade. He got the better of Korean Soonwoo Kwon in straight sets 6-1,6-3 in the Round of 16.
In the Quarter-finals, he defeated fellow Serb Miomir Kecmanovic with a similar scoreline 6-1,6-3. After his win, Djokovic voiced his opinion about the COVID-19 Vaccines.
He said: “There have been a lot of options in terms of vaccines lately. What I heard from the organisation, my brother (Djordje Djokovic, the tournament director), that a lot of (players) have been vaccinated,” he said.
“There has been a lot of un-clarity I would say, as to whether there’s going to be a compulsory mandatory vaccination in order to take part on the ATP Tour, I don’t think it will come to that. I hope not, because I’ve always believed in freedom of choice.”
I just don’t want to be labelled as someone who is against or who is for vaccines: Novak Djokovic
He further said that getting vaccinated is a personal decision and doesn’t want to get into any sides, neither for nor against.
He said: “I will keep the decision as to whether I’m going to get vaccinated or not to myself, I think it’s an intimate decision and I don’t want to go into this game of pro and against vaccines, which media is unfortunately creating these days.”
“I just don’t want to be labelled as someone who is against or who is for vaccines. I’m not going to answer the question you asked me and hope that everyone will respect that.”
Novak Djokovic will play the winner of Aslan Karatsev vs Gianluca Mager in the semi-finals at Belgrade.
