Novak Djokovic‘s wife, Jelena Djokovic, has revealed her emotions after her husband’s historic Olympic gold medal win in Paris earlier this year. Novak completed the one missing piece in his trophy cabinet by defeating Carlos Alcaraz in the penultimate match at the Paris Olympics.
Jelena, who is also the director of the Novak Djokovic Foundation, shared that she had ‘tears of joy’ watching her husband’s historic triumph. She believes that winning the gold medal was more difficult for the former World No. 1 than any of the other accolades he has achieved in his career.
Novak’s Olympic singles gold medal is the highlight of an otherwise disappointing season. The Serb has gone without a Grand Slam or a Masters 1000 title for the first time since 2017.
Since his Olympic singles gold medal win, Novak has played only two tournaments (the US Open and Shanghai Masters). He has opted out of the Paris Masters to focus on maximizing his potential for the upcoming Grand Slam events.
Dominic Thiem’s astonishing stat against Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic revealed
Dominic Thiem is the latest star from men’s tennis to retire after playing his final match at the Vienna Open. The Austrian lost in straight sets to 22-year-old Luciano Darderi in the first round of the ATP 500 event. Thiem’s retirement follows Andy Murray, who ended his career at the Paris Olympics in August, and Roger Federer, who stepped away in September 2022. Rafael Nadal is also set to retire after the Davis Cup Finals in Malaga next month.
At his peak, Thiem was a major contender on the ATP Tour and a real threat to the “Big Three” of Federer, Nadal, and Novak Djokovic. He won the 2020 US Open, reached a career-high ranking of No. 3 in March 2020, and claimed 17 ATP titles. Thiem was a finalist at the French Open in 2018 and 2019 and at the Australian Open in 2020. From 2010 to 2020, only he and Marin Cilic managed to win a Grand Slam outside of Djokovic, Nadal, Federer, Murray, and Stan Wawrinka.
Thiem’s impressive head-to-head records against the Big Three stand out. He has five wins against Djokovic, six against Nadal, and five against Federer. He is one of only two players, along with Murray, to have recorded five or more wins against each member of this legendary trio. Thiem defeated both Djokovic and Nadal in Grand Slam matches, though he never faced Federer at a major.
Additionally, Thiem achieved a rare feat by beating Federer on all four surfaces: clay, grass, outdoor hard courts, and indoor hard courts. Only Nadal and Djokovic have managed to do the same against the Swiss legend.
