‘ Novak Djokovic’s new record may stand as his single most impressive achievement’ : ATP Chairman

Yesterday Novak Djokovic completed 311 weeks as World no.1, and with that he overtook Roger Federer’s record which was 310 weeks at the top. This new ‘Word Record’ set by Novak Djokovic has been lauded by many including ATP Chairman Andrea Gaudenzi.
Gaudenzi thinks that this record as World No.1 will be the most significant record that Djokovic will hold. Djokovic first became the World no.1 at the age of 24 on July 4, 2011, the day after winning Wimbledon for the first time, beating Nadal in the final. His latest stint, his fifth one overall, as World no.1 started in February 2020.
Winning the Australian Open in Adelaide, had assured Djokovic that he would remain no.1 till this week, no matter what. Djokovic has also called beating this record a ‘big relief’. He believes now he can spend more time focusing on winning the Grand Slams.
Belgrade and Serbia celebrates Djokovic’s feat
The streets of Belgrade were lit up with images of Novak Djokovic in red and blue, which is the color of the Serbian flag. The soccer crazy country pausing for a moment to applaud one of the tennis greats, who also happens to be one of their own.
Djokovic and his family spent the evening watching fireworks with the crowd, close to Djokovic’s new restaurant in Belgrade. He also spoke to the crowd, he said that it was a special day not only for him and his family but also for the whole nation of Serbia. He believes his achievements belong to the nation of Serbia.
