Novak Djokovic’s unbelievable 180 degrees split on court is known to all; check out how he trains to achieve that flexibility
World No.1, Novak Djokovic is not someone who was gifted with all the adulation and praise right from the beginning. The Serbian has worked tirelessly to earn a separate identity.
Having ended the year as the No.1 ranked for the sixth time in his career, Djokovic equaled Pete Sampras’ record besides moving past his two formidable adversaries, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, who have finished as the year-end No.1 fives times each in their careers.
Known for turning defense into offense, Djokovic has probably the best on-court movement on the tour. Like a jet-ski the Serbian slides on the court to return shots from the uncomfortable positions. He once went into a full 180 split in an attempt to return a shot, which was a sight to witness.
Training for the Spider-Man slide
Recently, the 17-time Grand Slam champion uploaded a picture on Twitter of himself indulging in a Pilates session alongside a bunch of people.
The World No.1 revealed in the caption that he was training to polish his ‘Spider-Man; like sliding skills.
This special skill set which has been mastered by the Serbian is a real thing of beauty which also makes it difficult for opponents to counter as he reaches the ball when it seems impossible to retrieve it. Not many can pull that off successfully.
Novak Djokovic won the Australian Open a record eight times this year after he curbed the relentless efforts of World No.3, Dominic Thiem in the title clash.
Hoping to increase that tally, Novak will have to maintain his fitness levels while he would be quarantining in Melbourne for two weeks before the Australian Open 2021 resumes on February 8th. The Serb will also be aiming to increase his overall Grand Slam tally as the race to the most number of Majors is still on the table.
