Novak Djokovic’s wife, Jelena, has praised Carlos Alcaraz for his hard work and energy after he claimed the singles silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The Spaniard lost to Novak Djokovic 7-6(3), 7-6(2) in the final on Sunday (August 4).
Having won the French Open and Wimbledon, Alcaraz was the clear favorite to claim the gold medal at the Summer Games. He was in great form at the Games, winning all matches without dropping a set en route to the final. However, in the summit clash, the Djokovic he met was very different from he now he had beaten in straight sets at the All England Club last month.
Djokovic struck each ball with depth and penetration, and with an incredible defense. He increased his intensity as Alcaraz found his rhythm, hitting with an eviscerating forehand. He won the two tiebreaks to clinch the gold, leaving the four-time Grand Slam champion in tears after the loss as he failed to win the gold medal for his country.
Several fans and players consoled Alcaraz, who took the silver medal for Spain. Jelena Djokovic took to social media to hail the Spaniard’s hard work and energy and wished him extraordinary paths ahead.
