Now G2's Valorant coach after T1 violates VCT guidelines as Riot issues competitive ruling covering this

On January 13, 2022, the Valorant Champions Tour saw its latest rule violation in G2 Esports’ EMEA Challengers match versus Team Vitality. Daniil “pipsoN” Meshcheryakov was discovered talking with his team throughout the match, which was a violation of Riot Games’ rules on communication between players and non-players. As a result, G2 received an official warning.

In the first round of the VCT 2022 EMEA Closed Qualifiers, G2 Esports faced Team Vitality in the quarter-finals. The match resulted in a 2-0 victory for Vitality. Despite their defeat, G2 has been accused of breaking the tournament’s rules.

This is one of many incidents during VCT 2022 where individuals or teams were paid for violating Riot’s competition rules. T1 suffered the same fate in the VCT NA Challengers, as its coach was caught red-handed delivering instructions to his team mid-match.

Daniil “pipsoN” Meshcheryakov, 26, is the newest addition to G2’s roster. pipsoN joined in December 2021 as part of a three-player deal that included hoody and Meddo, intending to improve G2 Esports in Valorant. G2 met Team Vitality in a best-of-three match to qualify for the Stage 1 Challengers, which concluded in a 2-0 loss for the former. Despite the setback, G2 was on the verge of a triumph, with both matches ending in a two-round tie.

pipsoN resorted to using team comms to applaud G2’s outstanding performance with his teammates at one point during the match. Communication between non-players and players is completely prohibited during any official Riot-organized Valorant events and is a severe infraction.

Riot Games obtained evidence of pipsoN’s actions. Due to the nature of communication between pipsoN and the team, it was judged innocuous. According to Riot:

“The specific circumstances of this violation have been taken into account as mitigating factors in the penalty.”

Coaches are only authorised to communicate during technical breaks and tactical timeouts, and they are not allowed to say anything that could provide the team with a competitive advantage.
