“Strong in their beliefs and convictions” – Australian stars Hugh Jackman, Chris Hemsworth shows support for LGBTQIA+ in Manly Sea Eagles’ pride jersey

Two of the most popular celebrities hailing from Australia, Hugh Jackman and Chris Hemsworth have a massive fan following all over the globe. However, the duo seems to be caught in the news for all the wrong reasons this time as they have found themselves in the middle of a controversy regarding the newly announced Manly’s pride jersey.
For those who don’t know, recently it was announced that the Manly Sea Eagles, a professional team in the National Rugby League (NRL) based out of Sydney, will be donning a new jersey for their crucial game against the Sydney Roosters. But some of the players have decided not to take part in the game as their personal beliefs didn’t allow them to wear the club’s newest ‘pride’ jersey featuring rainbow stripes in support of the LGBTQIA+ community.

As per media reports, the two big-screen heavyweights were both sent the team’s rainbow jerseys by the NRL outfit weeks ago. Photos released by The Daily Telegraph show the 53-year-old Jackman, who is a massive Sea Eagles fan, actually wearing the jersey at the centre of the controversy.
He even recorded a message in the jersey for a video posted online by a charity of Gus Worland (TV and radio personality) – Gotcha4Life, an organization established to increase mental fitness and end suicide in Australia. The Hollywood star ended his part in the video by chanting for his team.

“G’day everyone and I’m so excited about the first Gotcha4Life cup,” the Wolverine star says in the video.
“These young men are strong in their beliefs and convictions and we will give them the space and support they require,” Manly coach Des Halser told the media while confirming on Tuesday at least seven players will miss Thursday night’s game against the Roosters because they are unwilling to wear the club’s inclusion jersey.
“The playing group are solid and understanding of each other’s views. As a club, we will wear the jersey on Thursday night.”
