“Number 1 Bulls**t”, Jon Jones thinks that Khabib don’t deserve number 1 position in UFC Rankings

Jon Jones and Khabib Nurmagomedov

With the UFC releasing its pound for pound rankings, “The Eagle” Khabib Nurmagomedov has ranked number 1 on the list. This comes after the Russian expressed his wish to be placed at the number one position while announcing his retirement at UFC 254. While many have accepted the rankings as testament to Khabib’s legendary career, one particular person finds it to be unfitting of him.
UFC legend Jon Jones recently took to twitter to express his displeasure with the rankings, going so far as to call them “number one bullsh*t”, a phrase popularised by Khabib himself. Ironic, isn’t it?
“Dude asked to take my throne instead of outworking me,”: Jon Jones on Khabib Nurmagomedov
Jones lost his top pound for pound rank for the first time in years and is now placed second in the rankings. However, he does hold the record for the most title fight wins at 14. A number which is far greater than Khabib’s 3, as claimed by “bones” himself. The fighter made this apparent, taking to twitter to express his displeasure.
Moreover, Jones also claimed that Khabib “asked to take his throne instead of outworking him”. He also mentioned of “enormous” differences in their career.
While the fact about title fights does hold some substance, both have had similar careers more or less. Barring a controversial DQ loss to Matt Hamill early in his UFC career, Jones is practically undefeated in the promotion. Same with Khabib who actually went undefeated in UFC. Also, Jones can brag about defeating Khabib’s long time training partner and closest friend Daniel Cormier twice. Although one was overturned into a No Contest after Jones tested positive for PEDs.
However, unlike Khabib, Jones’ last few fights haven’t really been all that great; He barely beat Dominick Reyes for a decision win. Not to forget his last three wins were due to decision as well. Khabib, on the other hand, put up dominating performances in his title defences. With all the drama surrounding Jones and Khabib, it was also rumoured that they would face each other down the line. But that, however will remain a fantasy match.
