Four-time MLB All-Star Juan Soto was the hot topic in the 2024 offseason. Following a memorable season with the New York Yankees, he penned down a historic $765 million deal with the New York Mets. As per new reports, Soto had a special request to his new team which has been approved.
After the end of the regular season, several MLB players are spotted doing extra training and playing some baseball during the Winter. The Dominican international had expressed his desire to play in the Dominican Winter League before.
Soto had requested the Mets to allow him to play 10 games with the Tigres del Licey of the Winter League. This special request of his has been granted. The 26-year-old will now play in this league next winter or in a future season.
Regarding Juan Soto and LIDOM — he is not asking the Mets to play this year. Soto has long been under control to Licey, and might play 10 games or so next winter or in future season. Licey manager, btw, is promising Mets minor league skipper Gilbert Gomez.

Soto was set to join Licey after the 2022 season for their postseason run. However, he winded up not playing for them during that time.
In the 2024 campaign, Soto had his best offensive year. He hit 41 home runs and drove in 109 runs. His performances helped the Yankees reach their first World Series since 2009. Despite falling short there, Soto was named a Silver Slugger and finished 3rd in the American League MVP standings behind Bobby Witt Jr. and Aaron Judge.

The former San Diego Padres star was also asked about the difference between the National League and the American League. He would simply claim that there is not much of a difference and point out how a team plays all other 29 teams in the new format.
Soto is currently a 5-time Silver Slugger Award winner, a 4-time All-Star, and has been a former NL batting champion. Apart from all these achievements, he also has a World Series ring with the Washington Nationals. All of this should likely give him entry into Cooperstown in the future.
