In the ongoing offseason, superstar Juan Soto broke the internet with his new contract. The 4-time MLB All-Star joined the New York Mets on an enormous 15-year $765 million deal, shattering MLB records. Francisco Lindor has once again expressed his excitement over this and is eager to share the field with him.

The shortstop was one of the stars who shared an immediate reaction to the news of Soto joining the Mets in December. He would reshare a post from MLB on his Instagram stories and drop the “eye” emoji.

On Saturday at the team’s Amazin’ Day at Citi Field, Lindor joined several other of his teammates to take part in this fanfest. During this, he was once again asked about Soto and the prospect of playing alongside him.

Reacting to this, the 4-time Silver Slugger claimed he was happy for him and his family. He even added that he will show Soto his home once they start playing together.

I was happy and then I was like ‘damn,’ it’s great. I was happy for him and his family as well, and for the organization. I can’t want to be a teammate of his for the next seven years and then can’t wait to watch him from my house.

The two players had an amazing 2024 campaign and played an important part in their team’s postseason push. Juan Soto slammed 41 home runs in the regular season and had 109 RBI. In the postseason, he hit 4 more home runs and had 9 RBI as the New York Yankees fell just short in the World Series.

As for Lindor, he started the year slow but picked up pace later on just like his team did. The Mets reached the NLCS but lost 4-2 in the series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Lindor’s 33 home runs and 91 RBI saw him finish as the runner-up in the NL MVP race behind Shohei Ohtani.

Francisco Lindor delivers message to Pete Alonso during free agency saga

One of the big storylines regarding the New York Mets offseason since landing Juan Soto has been regarding Pete Alonso. The first baseman has yet to land a new contract and is still a free agent. Francisco Lindor delivered a message to him regarding this on Saturday during the fanfest.

Alonso was offered a 7-year $158 million contract extension in June 2023. However, the slugger declined this opportunity and instead tested free agency a year later.

Lindor has now urged him not to ‘rush’ in his decision and take time to decide about his future. The former Cleveland Guardians star claimed that he was thinking about him and hoped that he is doing good at the moment.

I think he should take his time. I think he should make the best decision for himself and not feel like he’s rushed into a decision… Pete’s smart. He’s going to get input from his wife and his family and then make the best decision for himself.

These words from him also come at a time when the Mets management is unsure about Alonso’s chances. During the fanfest, team owner Steve Cohen gave a “brutally honest” answer regarding Alonso’s future with the team and pointed out that they did not like what had been presented before them. Only time will tell when this saga will eventually come to an end.
