“Mets love signing mid pitchers” – Fans brutally TROLL NY Mets for signing former Yankees pitcher Frankie Montas on 2-year, $34 deal

The New York Mets have made their first pitching offseason move. As the team continues to be locked in the race for Juan Soto, they have now agreed terms with another Dominican star. As per reports, the National League team has agreed on a deal with Frankie Montas.
According to MLB.com‘s Mark Feinsand, the team has reached a two-year, $34 million agreement with the former New York Yankees pitcher. The deal which is pending physical, will see the right-handed earn $17 million a year. There is an opt-out clause for him after the 2025 season.
This move from the Mets comes at a time when two of their 2024 stars Sean Manaea and Luis Severino enter free agency. While Manaea was likely going to become a free agent, Severino declining the qualifying offer from the team came as a surprise to many.
This deal from the Mets could be viewed as insurance from them as they face the likely prospect of losing two starting pitchers.

The last few years have been up and down for the 31-year-old pitcher. Following a terrific season with the Athletics in 2022, he was sent to the Yankees. The move to the Bronx did not quite work out the way he would have hoped as he registered a high ERA of 6.35 in eight starts.
In the last offseason, he joined the Cincinnati Reds on a one-year, $16 million deal. He was later traded to the Milwaukee Brewers. During the 2024 season, he had 30 total starts and posted an ERA of 4.84.
Social media reacts to NY Mets signing Frankie Montas
The New York Mets agreeing on terms with Frankie Montas has ignited wild reactions on social media. Fans have once again trolled them the same way they did when Luis Severino declined the qualifying offer from them.
Several users on X called out the Mets for signing Montas. While some urged for them to announce Juan Soto next, some claimed that this was not the news they had been waiting for. Meanwhile, one fan dissed the team and wrote, “Mets love signing mid pitchers.”

Montas now joins the Mets rotation alongside Kodai Senga, David Peterson, Tylor Megill, and Paul Blackburn. Despite this signing, the Mets will likely move for one more pitcher to make a strong rotation.
Some top free agents they could look forward to signing are Jack Flaherty, Walker Buehler, Max Fried, and Corbin Burnes. At the moment though, their primary focus is to land Soto on a big contract. This could help them push for the World Series title in the upcoming year.
