It seems luck is not on the side of the New York Mets at the moment. On Sunday, the National League East side got crushed 12-1 by the Pittsburgh Pirates and got swept in the 3-game series against them, which left the fans fuming on social media.
Things have not gone well for the Mets in the month of June. After sweeping the Washington Nationals and claiming their 6th win in a row, the team has suffered a major skid in form.
The team would lose 7 games in a row, which included them getting swept by the Tampa Bay Rays and the Atlanta Braves. While they did win 11-4 against the Philadelphia Phillies to end this long losing run, they lost 3 more on the bounce after that.
This weekend, they took on the Pirates after back-to-back wins against the Braves, which earned them a split in the 4-game series. In the first two games of the series, the Mets were blown 9-1 and 9-2, leading to a players-only meeting. Things did not change for them as they got crushed 12-1 on Sunday.

The Pirates created a unique piece of history with this series sweep. As per stats, they are the first MLB team since 1901, to score 30 or more runs, allow 4 or fewer runs, and strike out more than 25 batters in a three-game series.

Social media reacts to Mets’ getting swept by Pirates
At the start of June, the New York Mets were one of the hottest teams and even had the best record in the league at one point. While they are still a few games above the .500 win percentage, their recent slump in form has angered their fanbase.

Users on X were left fuming as the team got slammed 12-1 on Sunday. Stars like Francisco Lindor, Juan Soto, and Pete Alonso went 1-for-11, with Soto the only one getting a hit in this game.
Following the series sweep at the hands of the Pirates, several fans slammed them. One wrote, “Despicable performance,” while expressing their frustration.
Check out that and some more reactions from fans on X below:
Despicable performance. 3-13 since you decided to disgrace god and country with the mental illness flag during the anthem, and the heathens twerking and making out on the Jumbotron. Enjoy this deserved collapse

An absolute fee fall. Unwatchable right now. Pathetic. Dumpster fire. Embarrassing. Lifeless. And so many other words of disgust. At least they are breaking our hearts before October this year. I guess there is that.

What a disgrace!

Swept and smacked by a last place team. Outscored 30-4. We didn't even face Skenes. What is being done about this?

Domination ain’t even the word annihilation better like it

Allowing 30 runs to the Pirates should be a crime punishable by death

I'm done for a while as it is clear the players don't care about winning. Why should I watch.

Fire Mendoza. Fire current batting coach. Pitching is another story, so many injuries there is nobody to blame… yet. Mendoza is still treating Lindor Soto Alonso etc like stars. They’re employees expected to perform. Sounds cold but true.

They need to fire Chavez. He's too busy running his flap on social media.

The Mets, who were 45-24 following that series sweep against the Nationals, are now 48-37 and 2nd in the NL East. They have now lost 13 of their last 16 games, and are 1.5 games behind the Phillies as of Sunday.
Carlos Mendoza admits being frustrated with Mets’ recent poor form
The New York Mets are having a tough stretch at the moment. The team that started off the season strongly has fallen back a little in the last few days. Following their 12-1 loss on Sunday, their manager, Carlos Mendoza, admitted that they were all “frustrated” with the results.

The Mets were hoping to bounce back to form against one of the worst offensive teams statistically this year. However, they ended up getting dominated by the Pittsburgh Pirates, and were outscored 30-4 in the three-game series.
It’s frustrating, and we are all frustrated, obviously. Not gonna lie, we’re better than that, and they know that. It’s a tough stretch, but we’ve got to be better.
"We are all frustrated. We're better than that, and they know that. It's a tough stretch. We've got to be better, and it starts with me."

The next assignment for the Mets is a 3-game home series against the Milwaukee Brewers. Following this, they will welcome their crosstown rivals, the New York Yankees, to Citi Field.
