This team is an absolute embarrassment. They should be ashamed of themselves. Four runs in the first and then decide to shut the offense down. Hard to watch. These guys are a bunch of clowns and this pen just absolutely sucks. And still the starters struggle to go six. Worst loss…

The Mets now hold a 1.5-game lead for the final wild card spot in the National League. Things do not get easier for them from here on. They will now take on 2 playoff-contending teams, the Texas Rangers and the San Diego Padres, in back-to-back 3-game series.
Carlos Mendoza claims Mets are still in control of situation despite series sweep
The New York Mets were handed their 6th successive loss on Thursday as the Philadelphia Phillies came from 0-4 down to win 6-4. After the game, Mets coach Carlos Mendoza claimed that the team was still in control of their situation despite getting swept in a 4-game series.

The Mets currently occupy the final wild card spot in the NL East. They have a 1.5 game lead over both the Cincinnati Reds and the San Francisco Giants for the final spot. It’s effectively a 2.5 game lead over the Giants as they own the tiebreaker.
If all three teams finish the season tied, the Reds will leapfrog the Mets and take the final wild card spot due to a superior three-way head-to-head record. Mendoza is not worried about this. However, he did admit that there aren’t a lot of games remaining.
I’m not going to say that I’m worried, but we don’t have too much time. Teams are right behind us. The way you look at it is, we’re still in control of the situation, we’re still in control of the ultimate goal. We just have to go out and do it.
Carlos Mendoza told the reporters after the game
Carlos Mendoza was asked how worried he is about the Mets right now:

Following the two home series against the Rangers and the Padres, the Mets will conclude their 2025 homestand with a 3-game series against the Washington Nationals. After that, they will face off against the Chicago Cubs and the Miami Marlins in 2 away series.
