With the Spring Training underway, the offseason is into its last few days. As the excitement for the new season grows, there are still some big decisions needed to be made by the New York Yankees. In the midst of this, an MLB insider has claimed that the team is out of “loot”.

Following the loss in the World Series, the Bronx Bombers turned their attention towards re-signing Juan Soto. Unfortunately for them, Soto picked the $765 million 15-year deal of the New York Mets instead of their $760 million 16-year offer.

After losing Soto, the Yankees went into an aggressive mode and landed some top names. They roped in two former MVPs Cody Bellinger and Paul Goldschmidt. They would trade away starting pitcher Nestor Cortes and bring in top reliever Devin Williams. On top of that, they handed a huge 8-year $218 million deal to ace pitcher Max Fried.

All of this has taken the Yankees close to the $300 million mark on the luxury tax payroll. The AL side is also rumored to be in trade talks with 8-time All-Star Nolan Arenado. However, as per insider Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the Yankees do not have money left to try and bring him in.

Longtime star third baseman Nolan Arenado is still eminently available. And while word going around was that the Yankees were on his exclusive list of approved trade teams, sources say the Yankees aren’t interested for two reasons: 1) they suspect he’s on the decline, and 2) they have no loot left.

One of the biggest issues in the Arenado trade deal is the amount of money that he owes the St. Louis Cardinals after signing a 7-year contract. As per reports, around $74 million amount is still owned in his contract.

On the other hand, the Yankees have been looking to reduce some of their wages. One name on the chopping block is pitcher Marcus Stroman. A month ago, reports emerged that the team was looking to offload him and save around $17 million from his salary.

However, the trade rumors regarding him have cooled down a bit in recent days. He was recently named as the opening pitcher for the Spring Training and threw one inning against the Tampa Bay Rays.

More problems mount for New York Yankees as Giancarlo Stanton gets injured

Just at the start of the Spring Training, the New York Yankees have been dealt a major blow. One of their power hitters Giancarlo Stanton has suffered an injury to both of his elbows and will undergo further testing.

As per Bryan Hoch of MLB.com, Stanton was in “very high” pain a week ago. Meanwhile, his manager Aaron Boone refused to put a timeline on his potential return. He is now scheduled to undergo medical testing in New York.

On Monday, Boone claimed that Stanton had headed back to New York for some “personal issue”.

I can tell you he is in New York, but it’s personal in nature and I’m going to leave it at that for now. That’s all I can comment on that.

Aaron Boone said as per Bryan Hoch

Stanton was one of the top performers for the Yankees in the 2024 offseason. He led the offensive and hit 7 home runs while driving in 16 RBIs in 14 games. His loss could be a big blow to the Yankees’ ambition for the 2025 season.
