The New York Yankees ended up on the losing side once again on Friday night. In a battle of the pitchers, Boston Red Sox starter Brayan Bello came out on top against Max Fried and saw his team win 1-0 and claim the season series against their fierce rivals.

The two American League East rivals came into the game on Friday with nothing much to separate them. The Red Sox claimed a 6-3 win on Thursday following an emphatic Yankee Stadium debut from Roman Anthony. That win was the Red Sox’s 6th successive win against the Yankees this season.

On Friday, the contest between the two teams turned out to be a pitching duel between Bello and Fried. The two starters dominated from the mound and did their part.

Fried would pitch his first scoreless innings since June 25th and picked up 7 strikeouts while giving up just 4 hits. He would leave the game after 6 innings.

The only run of the game came in the top of the 7th inning when Mark Leiter Jr. took to the mound for the Yankees. The reliever conceded the run through a double from Connor Wong.

Bello, on the other hand, would pitch 7 scoreless innings and claim 5 strikeouts. Garrett Whitlock and Aroldis Chapman would then take over and pitch 2 hitless innings, securing a narrow 1-0 victory for the visitors.

This 1-0 win was the first time the Red Sox had won against the Yankees by such a close margin in more than 3 decades. Their last 1-0 win over the Yanks came on July 28, 1994.

Social media reacts to Yankees losing to Red Sox again

The Boston Red Sox seem to have the number of the New York Yankees this season. In a tight game on Friday, which resulted in 9 combined hits from the two teams, the Red Sox edged out their rivals 1-0 and claimed their 7th successive win against them.

This victory also sealed a season series against the Bronx Bombers. After winning the first game of the season, the Yankees have not tasted success against their division rivals.

This loss of theirs ignited some fierce reactions from the Yankees fans on social media. Many of them once again took a swipe at the team’s front office. One frustrated user wrote, “What a bunch of losers” while blasting the team over their performance in this game.

Check out that and some other reactions from X below:

The Red Sox (70-59) have leapfrogged the Yankees (69-59) once again in the AL East Standings and are 0.5 games ahead of them. They also sit on top of the AL Wild Card standings now, pushing the Yankees to second in this.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone claims he does not like losing to Red Sox

The New York Yankees had another disappointing outing at Yankee Stadium on Friday as they lost 1-0 against the Boston Red Sox. After the game, manager Aaron Boone spoke on the loss and expressed that he does not like losing against them.

After losing 9-6 in the first meeting of the year, the Red Sox won the next two games to take the series in June. A week later, they would complete a 3-game series sweep over the Yankees.

The two wins on Thursday and Friday mean that the Red Sox have now won 7 successive games against the Yankees this season. This is something that Boone and anyone associated with the Yankees do not like.

I don’t like losing to them. I don’t like losing to anyone. You never like losing to the Sox. They’ve had our number here for this stretch. We get a chance to change that tomorrow.

Aaron Boone told the reporters

Following these two losses, the Yankees cannot win the series against them. They can hope for a split with them by winning on Saturday and Sunday. After this series, the two rivals will face off again in September in a 3-game series, which will kick start a 10-game road-trip for the Yanks.
