NZ vs WI: Kane Williamson slams his 3rd double-century, New Zealand crosses 500 run mark
Kane Williamson
New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson smashed his third double-hundred in Test cricket during the inaugural game against the West Indies. He helped his side post a mammoth total of 519-7 (declared) after batting for 145 overs in the first innings.
West Indies skipper Jason Holder won the toss and missed the trick after opting to bowl first at the Seddon Park, Hamilton. The tourists picked up the wickets of Ross Taylor (38), Henry Nicholls (7), Tom Blundell (14) and Daryl Mitchell (9). However, opener Tom Latham played a decent knock before getting on 86.
Following this, wickets kept tumbling from one end, while Williamson anchored the innings from the other one. The 30-year old got out after smashing 251 runs in 412 deliveries. His innings comprised 34 fours and two sixes as well. Speedster Alzarri Joseph claimed his wicket as Roston Chase completed the catch.
This knock also marked the 22nd Test century from the bat of Kane Williamson in the longer format. Moreover, Kane’s 251 in this game is also his highest individual score in international cricket. His previous best inning came five years back in 2015 during a match against Sri Lanka in Wellington.
New Zealand on top
Soon after Williamson got out, Kiwi bowling all-rounder Kyle Jamieson also scored a quick-fire half-century in the end. His knock helped New Zealand edge past the 500 run-mark.
All West Indian bowlers got slammed for runs all over the park. Lead pacers Kemar Roach and Shannon Gabriel turned out to be the pick of the bowlers as they claimed three wickets each.
The visiting team is currently playing at 28-0 at the end 15 overs in their first innings. Openers Kraigg Brathwaite and John Campbell are batting at 10* and 18* runs respectively.
